National Science festival “Spaceship Earth” – annual event, which started in 2004 in two biggest cities of Lithuania – Vilnius and Kaunas. Since then, Science festival became the most important and biggest cluster of popular science events and spread into more than ten cities. In the year 2021 we’ve set a new record – nineteen cities on the festival’s map! During series of diverse hands-on activities (lectures, demonstrations, excursions, exhibitions, which in 2021 exceeded 400) each September more than 30 000 participants visit all main universities, science centers, laboratories of the biggest technological companies, such as „Teva Baltics“, „Ekspla“, „Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics“, „Biotechpharma“, other innovative companies, museums. Children of all ages, schoolchildren and families are taking part at the concomitant open air events (science fairs) in Vilnius and Kaunas. Each year we’re welcoming our guests from abroad – famous scientists with lectures from UK, Poland, Italy and other countries.
Main aims of the festival: to foster scientific culture in society and to encourage young audience – especially schoolchildren to pursue careers in science.
Science festival is being supported financially by the EU Structural funds. This project is part of a bigger effort – Creation of the National Science Popularization System, coordinated by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
